November Update

Welcome back to This New Town House, I'm Tim Taylor.

We've been on a hiatus lately thanks to unfortunate circumstances. There was a death on the crew, Big Mike unfortunately passed away. He'll be sorely missed by us all. He was a young man, only 56, too young.

So the house is coming along pretty well. Our insider reports no real problems, but he is a little concerned. He says he's living with "John Wayne." His housemate decided to make a purchase of a Glock 19. For those of you who don't know what that is, its a 9mm hand gun. Our insider is a little worried that its not the right thing for the house. For me, I'd have to agree, guns don't solve problems, they just usually escalate them, but hey its his choice.

Besides that, our new house experiment has gone well. We figured there would be a lot more bumps in the road, but so far so good.

Til next time, this is Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor. Don't forget to get out there and buy Binford Tools, they keep us on the air!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to This New House. I know we've been off the air for a little while, seems that things have going well at the new house. Our insider C hasn't had all of the problems that he thought he was going to be having before he moved in. Seems the hat has lighten up. He has though given us some insight into the new life.

1. For thinking that this guy was going to in bed before my mom, yeah well that went by the way side. Seems he makes our insider seem like an old man.

2. We thought he was going to be uptight and not really much of a drinker... ha, he drinks more than a fish. Seriously I saw 8 beer bottles when I toured the place tonight. I also hear that he invited our insider for dinner a couple of times. What a nice roommate.

3. Not really into doing manual labor- hes your typical Bob Villa, no offense Bob.

4. We think he might cook more than Bobby Flay or Rachael Ray, no joke.

5. Costco is his best friend. Cabinets look like the racks at Costco.

Just some observations. Other than that though it seems like everything going well. So for Bob, Tim, Al and the rest of the crew, I'm Steve Thomas have a good night.

Ask Al 5-28-08

Welcome to this weeks Ask Al segment... I'm Al Borland. Its been a quiet week here at This New House. Our insider C hasn't really had much to complain about... although he hasn't moved in.

He did however mention that he has a package sent to the new place by accident. He was able to pick it up without incident. We know amazing!

Since its quiet we figured we'd pose a poll, how long do you think our insider will last?

3 Months, 6 Months, 9 Months or a full year? We'll reveal the results next week.

Til then I'm Al Borland. See you next time on This New House.

Ask Al: 5-20-08

Welcome to Ask Al, I'm Al Borland. Today we are going to tackle one of the finer points of new home life... The Housewarming Party.

Well it seems from our insider C that there is a better chance in Hell Freezing over, or Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini getting along than that happening.

According to Section 33 of the lease third Paragraph: "Parties and Gatherings. Tenant shall not hold a party or gathering with more than three guests without the written consent of the Landlord at least three days prior to the event. Tenant shall not hold a party in excess of 5 people under any circumstances. " It goes on to say "Tenant hosting a gathering or party shall, upon request of the Landlord shall, terminate the event immediately. The Tenant shall be responsible for cleaning the dwelling and removing trash and litter that resulted from the party or gathering. He shall thoroughly clean the premises, deposit all trash in appropriate waste and recycling containers, and remove all litter left outside the dwelling by noon the following day. The outside litter shall be removed within one hour of the ending of the event but in no case later than 7 a.m. the following morning"

That's what we call the No Fun Rule. So there you have it. Unless said Landlord decides to throw the housewarming party... well you get the picture.

Thanks for joining us on Ask Al, I'll be back next week with more answers to life's unknown questions about new house life.

Pre-Move In...

Welcome Back. I'm Bob Vila with one of the tenants of this beautiful townhouse C. How are you C?

C- Pretty Good Bob, its great to be on This New House.

Good to hear C. So tell me how did you end up coming to this place.

C- We'll Bob I was looking for a new place to live and just happened to find this place on the web. Its a pretty good deal, but so far its been nothing but headaches.

Really, I wouldn't think of living in a brand new house as having to be a headache.

C- Well Bob, when you move from a place where you pretty much have your own freedom, to that of living in hell its a slight adjustment. I mean I can't hang anything on walls, all the furniture that I move in has to be able to be broken down, etc, etc.

Wow that really is a change.

C- Bob that doesn't even beat this one. I was questioned on how tall my SUV is. Thats right a f*cking SUV Bob. I'm even taller than the thing and I was questioned to see if it would fit into the garage.

Do you have a hummer or something?

C- Nope just a Pathfinder, a lonely Pathfinder. So I decided to stop by an take a look at the opening myself. It was about 82 inches to the top door frame. Figure with hang about 80 inches give or take. So I guess that whole 8 inches of clearance isn't enough. Geez.

Well I believe 80 is about standard for most garages so I think you definitely have a tight ass that you are living with. Enjoy.

Well that concludes this Segment of This New House. I'd like to thank our sponsors Stanley Tools, Tyvek and Owens Corning Insulation.

For this New House I'm Bob Vila, have a good night!

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the newest season of This New House, I'm Steve Thomas. We are here in lovely Fairfax, Virginia just 30 minutes outside of Washington DC at a brand new Townhouse. Over the next year we will be giving you incite into what its like to be a new homeowner.

I'll be joined this year by Bob Vila, Tim Taylor and Al Borland.

This year looks to be an exciting year for us as we go from showing you how to remodel old homes to how to live in brand new construction.

The townhouse is a robust 2,100 square feet with 2 master bedrooms, a great room with a fireplace, an open kitchen layout with GE Monogram Appliances, an office and a 2 car Garage. The townhouse was just completed and is move in ready.

When we get back we'll meet one of the 2 tenants of this lovely new home.
